Reviewing the Works of Satoshi Kamiya 1995-2003

Hi origami folks! To everyone subscribed - sorry for not posting for a while. My bad ^_^

So, today I wanna talk about Works of Satoshi Kamiya. As we origami dragon people know, he is the creator of some of the most awesome origami dragons I ever seen. Ancient Dragon, Divine Dragon(aka Bahamut, which is actually inspired by the dragon of the same name from Final Fantasy), and the most awesome of the all - the Eastern Dragon.

Of course, Satoshi Kamiya isn’t folding just origami dragons. Duh. There’s a lot of his works out there. Animals, dragons, magical creatures, you name it. There is this model, a Wizard, which is a rare origami design, because it is asymmetrical.

He’s good at it. Hes AWESOME at it. You seen the pics. The most impressive thing, is that he designed all these models himself. Now that’s impressive.

So, there’s this book. It’s called Works of Satoshi Kamiya 1995-2003, and it contains some of his creations from the date specified. 19 of them to be exact.

And the best part, is that he actually included both Japanese instructions and English. With tutorials for origami beginners!

Wait, no. The absolute best part, is that this book has 2 of his dragons ^_^

The Ancient Dragon 274 steps and Bahamut 275 steps. Wow >_<

I have written my review on this wonderful book. You can read it here.

Origami Dragon Description

Origami Dragon ModelsNearly everyone of us actually heard about origami, and some even had an occasion of truly trying it. Even individuals who think they didn’t, in actuality, they pretty much did. We all have dealt with paper and, especially in our childhood, have been utilizing paper for anything with the alleged main function of writing on the paper. And individual of these uses have probably had to do something with paper folding.

I don’t know many persons who didn’t fold paper airplanes and frogs whilst they were kids, and I don’t know one teen that does not know how to perform. How much fun it was to hurl those paper airplanes behind our teachers’ backs next to each other! And what about various airplane folding schemes? We were collecting the top schemes to fold the top airplanes that flew upper, longer, more rapidly.

I personally remember how we with a buddy of mine were trying to invent pristine schemes and change existing ones to generate the unsurpassed paper airplanes competing in opposition to each other. Individual may well say that this paper folding stuff is intended for kids, and I would be of the same opinion, but with a fine adjustment: The statement that paper folding is right and proper for kids, does not mean it is no more than designed for kids. There are many books about it, there are lots of Posts and Sites devoted to them, all of them are probably maintained not by kids, and the target audience of the the majority of them isn’t children as well.

Origami Dragon

There are serious competitions of paper folding, galleries, museums, and a rich history. Of course, I am Telling you about origami. Origami is paper folding, and paper folding is mostly origami. Origami is a Japanese word which exactly means folding paper. The history of origami lies mostly in Japan, and it is one of the traditional Japanese arts.

According to Wikipedia, there were developments of autonomous paper folding in other places like China or Germany, but they were less frequent. In truth, it does not really make a difference nowadays, as origami is at this time trained and appreciated universally. The amount of designs is really astonishing. Who would think that there are so many ways you can fold a sheet of square paper to make it resemble just about anything surrounding our lives, from Eiffel Tower to dragons, and every one has lots and lots of variations with various complexity levels and shapes.

These days there are many origami types, like compound origami, but by and large, the mainly widely held form of origami ought to be folded from square paper exclusive of gluing or cutting anything. Historical records prove that in ancient Japan origami practitioners were lax to these rules.

Origami dragons. They sustain a special place in my spirit, especially while they are origami dragons. What is so special about them? Well, they are cool :) They are beautiful, there are many, many various dragons. They are there in almost each culture in certain form. They are a mix of cool-blooded relic reptiles and something very ancient, capability to take to the air, swim and of course breathe fire! They are fascinating.

There are lots of high-quality origami dragon designs. Several are very clean, like a modification of a easy origami crane. Some are immensely intricate, with hundreds of steps and dozen of hours mandatory to be spent to fold them. Of course, progressive origami dragon requires a special origami paper, and a master who has his hands growing from the decent place to fold it right. It is, of course, probable to fold a composite origami dragon while having little experience with origami, but the final product might not look that accurate and beautiful like the fundamental design, probably it will resemble it at most.

Besides, a beginner possibly will end up being lost in directions, and that it will take him ten times as much to finish off the model. And I’m not even mentioning that a beginner will probably apply standard paper to fold the origami dragon. It is vital to understand, that it is really probable to accomplish the skill of folding necessary to fold that difficult origami dragon right in reasonable period.

You really have to start folding, and fold, fold, fold. You will understand all of the nuances in the process, and at the time you will be inclined to fold something really difficult and remarkable, you will know it. How about folding a simple origami dragon? It is simple. It does not require No special origami paper or origami experience, you can merely take a standard copier paper and start folding. Good luck!
